Perugia beats Verona in three sets!
The new year starts with a bang for Sir Safety Susa Perugia. The Block Devils coached by Anastasi play an extremely high-level match and conquer the Agsm Forum in Verona, defeating the WithU home team in three sets.
A really high-level match for the Block Devils who rev up the engine from the first ball and always lead the operations, with the exception of the initial phase of the second set when Verona, encouraged by their own warm and correct crowd, finds continuity in their serving and goes ahead 11-6. However, at that point Perugia demonstrates all its strength, returns to the field after the timeout called by Anastasi and puts in a 6-20 break that turns everything around. Sir Safety Susa excellent in all fundamentals, as demonstrated by the 62% positive reception against a team that makes serving one of its strong points. But Perugia team make the difference above all in the break phase with a devastating serve (12 aces) and with a wall-defense correlation that kept the feared opposing attackers at 36% as a team, allowing a always clear-headed Giannelli to play at will in counterattack.
Wilfredo Leon is MVP of this match. The Cuban-Polish outside spiker puts 17 on the ground with a 73% in attack (with 0 in the error and block column) and 6 aces. Double digits also for a concrete Solè (10 points with a 70% in attack and 3 point blocks), 9 points for Plotnytskyi. Of note are the good numbers of Piccinelli (67%), engaged as a receiving libero, and the entries of the Caribbean Cardenas (2 aces from the bench).
Perugia’s trip continues now with a direction to Ljubljana where on Wednesday Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia will be committed to the fifth day of the Champions League Pool E with the aim of closing the discussion for first place in the group and earning direct access to the quarter-finals.
